Jannik Sinner Opens Up About ‘Different Feeling’ Facing Carlos Alcaraz in Italian Open Final

Jannik Sinner advanced to the 2025 Italian Open final, but faced health concerns prior of his match against Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner made it to the final in his first competition after being suspended. Not just that. He set up a final against his young adversary Carlos Alcaraz, a battle that the tennis world eagerly anticipates whenever these two play in the same draw.

However, Sinner’s physical condition appears to be slightly doubtful ahead of the final.

In his semi-final encounter, the ATP World No. 1 player faced Tommy Paul, who proved challenging for the 23-year-old Italian.

Sinner lost the first set 1-6, but he then stormed back to win the match in three sets, 1-6, 6-0, 6-3. However, even though he won, the top seed struggled with some kind of issue in the third set. It wasn’t clear what the issue was, but it was clear it impacted his leg.
Naturally, the three-time Grand Slam champion was asked about the problem right after his match, but Sinner didn’t seem to be too concerned about the issue. The Italian player explained that he has struggled with a blister since the early rounds of the tournament. He also explained that his legs felt a bit tight, likely because of the lack of match practice recently.

“Since the third or fourth round, I’ve had a small blister under my feet, which doesn’t allow me to move as well in some moments. Today I felt it more than yesterday. It’s connected with that.”

“Leg-wise, I’m not concerned. It’s just a bit tight. It’s normal. But yeah, I have to take care of this blister. But there are no excuses. With adrenaline, there’s going to be a lot of energy. On Sunday, I’m 100% not concerned.”

Sinner was asked about the issue one more time during his post-match press conference. He again seemed to be very positive about being 100% fit for the final, and even if he wouldn’t be, the Italian player doesn’t want to come up with any excuses.

“I hope to recover in the best possible way. Since a couple of matches a blister under the foot, which then some other muscles, they work. I’m not concerned about my leg.”

“Hopefully, the blister is going to heal as fast as possible. But in any case, as I said, there are no excuses, no? I’m in the final. I give it the best I have Sunday, then we see what’s coming.”

Alcaraz and Sinner will compete in the final on Sunday, May 18th, before heading to Paris for the Roland Garros. Sinner will not compete in the Hamburg Open after withdrawing from the tournament following his performance in Rome.
