Alcaraz spoke about the prospect of facing Jannik Sinner ahead of his blockbuster showdown with his rival in the 2025 Italian Open final.

Both players will be contesting their maiden championship match at the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome.

It will be the 11th meeting between Alcaraz and Sinner — and the first this year.

The Spanish star leads the head-to-head 6-4, having won the pair’s previous three encounters, which all came in 2024.

In the semi-finals, Alcaraz defeated Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 7-6(4), while Sinner overcame Tommy Paul 1-6, 6-0, 6-3.

After victory over Musetti, Alcaraz addressed the possibility of a showdown with the world No 1.

“It could be great, I’m not going to lie. Who knows? He’s playing great. I’ve been watching his matches. His level is really high right now,” the 22-year-old told the media.

“Every time that I play against him is always a battle, is always really, really tough. I kind of enjoy that moments, as well. But [if] I play him in the final, would be even more challenging playing against him at home with the people behind him, supporting him.

“It’s going to be a really difficult challenge. But let’s see. Who wins tonight deserves to be in the final. It going to be a really difficult one.”

The four-time Grand Slam winner was also asked about being labelled the favourite to win the French Open by Musetti.

“The thoughts of him that I’m the favourite of Roland Garros, it is great that someone like Lorenzo who is top 10 seeing myself as the favourite of Roland Garros,” Alcaraz said.

“I say so many times, I don’t want to think about it. All I can say is, I’m feeling great. I have a lot of confidence right now.

“Yes, I would love to go to Roland Garros and try to enjoy the tournament and being in Paris”

“Well, I always say that you can be better. Obviously I’ve been trying to improve after every day, after every match, after every practice. I think is an opportunity to be better, to improve.

“I’m going to say I’m ready for that final. I’m excited to play my first final here in Rome. I have a lot of confidence. I know that I’m feeling great, I’m playing great tennis. Always can be better.

“Hopefully in the final I’m going to approach the match in the right way and play even better. But right now I’m really happy with the level that I’m playing and I made improvement since the beginning of the tournament.”
